NatWest Trustee Department 1987
This was the Stoke Branch office of NatWest Trustee Department. It remained the only branch office to be located in residential type accommodation. In a previous life it had been a rectory. At one time there were in excess of 90 such branch offices scattered around the country specialising in Trust and Estate administration, investment portfolio management and a few offering tax services. This branch closed in 1990/91 merging with the then Chester office. I took this image on one of my chance visits to the branch in 1987 as a part of my role in the bank at the time. I have been fortunate in that the archivist at Stoke on Trent Archives helped to locate the exact position. This is a scanned copy of the photograph which doesn't do justice to the building. See Jonathan Hutchins more recent image Image] which shows it as a business centre.

The blue plaque is situated on the building that was the Veterinary Infirmary of Thomas Mayer. Thomas Mayer opened what is considered to be the country’s first veterinary surgery in Queen Street, Newcastle in 1812. He and his son led the campaign for the Royal Charter of the Veterinary Profession that was granted in 1844. The Mayer family played a major part in developing the role and professionalism of veterinary surgeons through improving standards of training and practice and the development of veterinary morals and ethics.
