Phoenix Works from Longton Station
My own version of Alan Murray Rust's shot Image The end of a nice summer evening's stroll around Longton. I couldn't resist this "sunset on the potteries" image. I spent 18 months in Stoke but only got out with the camera twice. I did attend regular Thursday night restoration parties at the future Etruria Industrial Museum.

Car park and railway arches, Longton
Looking across a corner of the Tesco car park on the western edge of Longton town centre towards the viaduct carrying the Derby to Stoke railway line through the town. Some pottery related architecture can be seen beyond the viaduct.

Boundary Pottery Works, Longton
King Street,Longton.
Pottery works. Dated 1819, with later additions and modifications. Brick with plain tiled roofs. Entrance range of 3 storeys, 5 bays with central projecting bay with segmentally arched way to rear with Palladian style window over, and Diocletian window above. Pediment with heavy modillion cornice and date stone. Flat-arched windows in flanking sections, with continuous sill bands. Lower ranges of 2 storeys and 6 bays to left and right.

Phoenix Pottery Works, Longton
King Street, Longton.
In 1877, Thomas Forester commenced business at a small manufactory in High Street; and as his business rapidly increased, he took additional premises in Church Street. These he shortly afterwards took down, and built upon their site a new manufactory – the Phoenix Works – which he completed in 1879.
