A row of terraced houses in the village centre. I had thought the plaque on the end wall was a Sun Insurance logo, but although it may be influenced by that it is probably a more modern and decorative symbol.

The Clifford Arms, Great Haywood, Staffordshire
Hardly a cosy place - large, and now a single open plan bar, but very popular, not least because of the range of real ales served in very good condition. This pub has a friendly feel about it. Apparently there has been an inn on this site for over 1000 years! There is a 1955 Frith picture taken from almost the same angle which can be clicked on if you go to this page: http://www.francisfrith.com/great-haywood/

The Clifford Arms was rebuilt in the 1930s by Bass but parts of it incorporate the remains of the Tudor gatehouse for Haywood Hall. It is named for the Clifford family of Tixall Hall.
