Demolition on Balfour Street
Most of the terraced housing in this area (dating I would expect from the 2nd half of the 19th century) has been or looks to be soon demolished. Here the west side of Balfour Street is in the process of being knocked down (a crew with a JCB was working behind the barriers on the left). It looks like the east side is to survive (either that or the owners of the house with the green sign do not have much chance of getting a buyer!)

House awaiting demolition
On the corner of Tintern Street and Waterloo Street. A view of the rear of the house only possible because of the previous demolition of the houses on Balfour Street from where this was taken. The houses to the south on Tintern Street have also already gone.

The last Staffordshire Oatcake shop
The shuttered window on the right (62 Waterloo Street) is reported to be the last remaining traditional oatcake shop, where customers are served via a window onto the street, rather than entering a shop. It is closed today (only open Wednesday - Saturday) and is due to close permanently next week for redevelopment of the area. Many of the houses on this and surrounding streets have already been demolished.

Ivy House Mill
This warehouse and chimney is all that remains of the Tullis Russell Brittain's paper mill which has been here since 1834. The mill produced wrapping paper and high quality transfer paper for the pottery industry. It shut down in 2006, when production was transferred to Korea. The building is to be converted for residential use, with the chimney retained as a feature.
