The Woodman
Located on the corner of Old Hall Street and Goodson Street, this lovely old brick built pub looks very much out of place surrounded by modern concrete structures. The long sign reads "Whiskey Bonders Licensed To Sell Spirits Stout Beers General Provisions". For a close up of the plaster relief sign above the door see Image

Sign for The Woodman
This wonderful plaster relief sign is above the door of Image It depicts a rather youthful looking woodman carrying his axe amongst the trees and undergrowth, the ferns are shown as being nearly as tall as the trees. In the past the role of the woodman was to take care of the royal forests, giving him the status of being an important person. It seems a little strange to find a public house with this name near the centre of Hanley, one of the six former towns that now make up the city of Stoke-on-Trent.
