The Potteries Shopping Centre
This is the entrance to Hanley's large indoor shopping centre. The clock, although elegant, was disappointingly not showing the right time. Donut kiosks, of the sort seen here behind the clock, seem to have become a feature of many town centres in recent years, even though - to my nose - they exude a sickly unappetising smell that seems to pervade the whole area.

Upper Market Square, Hanley
Of the five towns that make up the Potteries it is Hanley, not Stoke on Trent, that has the main shopping centre. The architecture is fairly uninspiring but most of the main retailers are here.
