Aerial view of Thundersley Plotlands form the north
This region of the plotlands is known as the 'Lake District' because many of the roads are named after Cumbrian lakes. The road running right of centre to the bottom right corner is Coniston Rd. However, most of the other lake-named roads are not so visible. Great Burches Rd runs horizontally across the centre, from below the yellow field at the right, running up slightly, then horizontally to the left. Many of the fields and buildings here are for horse-riding.

Aerial view of Thundersley Plotlands from the south
This south-eastern area of the plotlands is much more wooded. The houses to the bottom left and centre-left are New Thundersley, with the Manor Trading Estate left of centre. At the bottom, right of centre, St Peter's Church is clearly seen. (As I write this, it is shrouded in mist.) The road visible to the right of the church is Church Road, which is also visible above-left of the church on its descent from the escarpment. Further to the left, this road passes Robert Drake School and then the Manor Trading Estate. Above right of Robert Drake School is an area of scrub that is now occupied by the Heston Lodge care centre.

The road curving along the bottom is the A127, Southend Arterial Road. The built-up area in the distance is Benfleet. Between are the fields and light industry comprising the Thundersley Plotlands. Great Burches Road runs almost horizontally, from the yellow field in the right, along the middle and curving away at the left centre. In the far distance is the Thames Estuary.
