Derelict Garrison
Not all of the Garrison is as nice as you'd think. I bet Gladedale Homes don't show people round here! I found this sad terrace on the sea wall behind Mess Road with graffiti, smashed glass and boarded up windows.

Shoeburyness Explosion Memorial
In 1885 an accident occurred at the Shoebury Garrison in which seven men, including three officers, were killed when a 6 inch shell exploded as an experimental type of fuse was being inserted. The subsequent inquiry found that the design of the fuse was inherently unsafe. The memorial, consisting of a broken shell on top of a cairn of stones, was unveiled in 1985, the centenary of the original event. The memorial stands outside Gunnery House, now used as apartments.
