Shoeburyness Post Office
The Post Office is in George Street at its junction with Dane Street, and is a fine example of the neo-Georgian style that the GPO adopted in the inter-war years and continued to favour into the 1950s.

Vintage bus at East Beach terminus, Rampart Terrace, Shoebury
On New Year's Day a local bus company, Stephensons of Essex, provided a special service over a number of routes normally served by other operators. As in past years several vintage buses were used for this purpose. The bus seen here is a former Southdown Leyland PD3/4 dating from 1964. These vehicles have always been known to the bus fraternity as 'Queen Marys'.

Rampart Terrace
This old Sycamore tree dominates the seafront and is home to starlings in spring and summer which feed their chicks in front of you on the tarmac. Behind you can see the old cafe which burnt down in 2006

One Bedroom Eco Beach Huts
This is one way to use up unused concrete walk ways. A snip at £20000, comes with nearby bus terminus at Rampart Street, public toilets close by and lots of holiday makers during the warmer months.

East Beach, Shoeburyness, Essex
This sign is no more! I believe it was destroyed in the arson attack on the East Beach cafe on Rampart Terrace in 2006. I am now really glad I photographed it because I liked the slogans. The sign stood opposite the first toilet block after you turn in from the rampart.

At almost exactly high tide (high tide on this day was 12:49, the photograph was taken at 12:48), beach users are pretty much confined to the concrete outside the beach huts.

Beach huts, East Beach, Shoeburyness
These huts were built by Southend Council in 2013 and have sedum covered roofs, plastic cavity walls filled with hardcore and brightly coloured fronts. Because they don't conform with the idea of a traditional beach hut, they have been the subject of much criticism by a vociferous minority.
