Blackdown is one of the three tower blocks that form the Balmoral Complex and dates from 1971. The others are Grampian and Brecon. The estate stands on the site of Campbell Road, Eastwick Road and Newlands Road all of whose terraced houses were demolished for the purpose.

Currys PC World, Princes Street, Southend
The part of Princes Street north of London Road is now occupied by a retail park which includes Pets at Home and Homebase as well as Currys. The site used to be covered by Southend Corporation's electricity generating station and tram (later bus and trolleybus) depot.
