Southend-on-Sea war memorial
An impressive portland stone memorial in the gardens on top of the cliffs in Clifftown Parade. Designed by Edwin Lutyens, it commemorates the dead of both World Wars, but contains no roll of honour.

Renewing railway ballast below Avenue Road Bridge
The near track has been lifted while the engineering train stands on the far track. The line was closed for weekend engineering works, with services from London terminating at Leigh-on-Sea.
