Chalkwell Hall is a Georgian house built in 1830. In 2009 it was renovated by and now houses MetalSouthend, an Arts organisation which on a nearby notice board states that "We run Chalkwell Hall as a centre for the development of creative ideas, artists' residencies, events and convenation [sic]". In 2015 the 'Southend Echo' reported that "in the past four years, [MetalSouthend] has received almost £1million in grants, including £298,500 since 2011/12 from Southend Council, £753,840 from the Arts Council over the same period, and £19,700 in European money."

Pond in Chalkwell Park
Mapped in Victorian times as Chalkwellhall Well, it looks more like a spring than a well. Whether it still springs naturally is not clear, but any outflow appears to be covered over now. It was presumably in the grounds of Chalkwell Hall, which still exists as a public building in a public park. Whether this was the chalk well of Chalkwell is also not clear. Actual chalk is a long way down here, requiring a deep borehole.
