Sign for the Cross Keys Inn, Upper Chute
Prior to the Reformation this was a very common inn sign, for it was the emblem of St Peter. When Henry VIII broke with Rome a number of signs changed to the King's Head. Later the keys had a significance when watchmen kept guard throughout the night on behalf of the community. The sign for Image

The Cross Keys Inn, Upper Chute
A Country Pub on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border next to miles of footpaths, bridleways and byways. The Pub is open weekdays 11-2:30 and 5-11pm, Saturday 11am till midnight and Sunday 12-11pm. There is a full time chef preparing all food on site and four real ales are available on pump. Four bed and breakfast rooms are available.
