Stoneham War Shrine
After removal of surrounding Beech trees. For a similar view before the felling, see Image The substantial trees shown in that earlier photo were originally a hedge around the shrine, which was built in 1917. Remains of Stoneham War Shrine in Avenue Park, North Stoneham
The War Shrine in Avenue Park was built in 1917 by John Willis Fleming in memory of his son Richard and other men of North Stoneham killed in action in the First World War. A nearby sign gives fuller details.
