Alresford and District Community Centre
The main public building in the centre of the town, used as a market, is this former chapel (I'm guessing) of Georgian period.

New Alresford main street
This is the A31 from Farnham to Winchester. Before the coming of the railway this would have been the main road from London to Southampton, and therefore there were many coaching inns in towns such as New Alresford. The Swan Inn is a reminder of those days. Henri de Blois, Brother in law of King Stephen and Bishop of Winchester, created the Novum Forum (new market) here, which was completed by his successor, Godfrey de Lucy in the late 12th century. Many buildings post date the various fires suffered in the town, the last significant of which being in 1736.

Tight Squeeze!
Bulleid Light Pacific No.34105 "SWANAGE" turns the corner at the junction between the High Street & Station Road, New Alresford. The Locomotive and Tender (following on another lorry) had been purchased by volunteers at the Mid-Hants Railway and until 24 hours previously it had been languishing in a South Wales Scrapyard since withdrawal by British Railways in 1964.
