View through Westgate
Any visitor entering the city from the west over the last 2,000 years would have had a similar view. This is the main Roman then Saxon then Mediaeval west to east street through Winchester. The clock is on the old Guildhall (now Lloyds TSB) with the High Cross and the Pentice beyond.

Upper High Street
Taken from the roof of the Westgate. This has been the main west-east thoroughfare of Winchester since the Romans formalised the street pattern. Until 1959 vehicles used to pass two way along this street, including going through the Westgate, but it is now one way with a bypass round the gate.
