A busy time on the Itchen Bridge
Motorists heading for Southampton city centre queuing on the Woolston side of the bridge to pay their tolls. The bus station entrance/exit which enables buses to by-pass the toll booths is just beyond the white building on the left. As the number of dot matrix signs built into the canopy suggests, the bridge originally had five toll booths. This has now been reduced to just four.

Itchen Bridge toll gates
The toll is ingeniously related to the vehicle height at the front axle, an easy automatic measure. I was pleased to find pedestrians are free.
