Copper beech leaves contre-jour, in Ham, Wiltshire
The leaves are dark purple, almost tending towards black, from the other side (see Image])- as very little light is reflected from the leaves. However, some light passes through the leaves - the green light not absorbed by the leaves and used in photosynthesis (which mainly uses the red and blue parts of the spectrum). With the sun less directly behind them, leaves become the coppery red seen in the background here.

Church of All Saints
This is a Grade I listed church dating from the 13th C. It has English Heritage Building ID: 310838 and was reworked during 14th , 18th and 19th C. It will soon need some more restoration work done, because a grey squirrel entered the roof at the end of the older part of the nave.
