Marlborough houses [79]
Dove House, formerly Albany Cottage, is number 40 London Road. Built in the late 18th century of red brick with flint nodules decoration. The sides are tile hung, all under a slate roof. The house has some fine, delicate iron railings. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1034210 Marlborough is a market town on the Old Bath Road once the main road from London to Bath. The twice-weekly market is sited in High Street, one of the widest in England, lined on both sides with fine listed buildings of which the town has almost 300. War memorial [1]
At the corner of London Road and Salisbury Road stands this memorial to the members of the 7th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment who fell in WWI. The memorial is a stone obelisk on a two-stepped base and square plinth and was erected in 1920. Originally the memorial stood on a triangle island and was moved to its present position when the road configuration was altered.
