Lydiard Park and house from the lake
Lydiard Park is a 260 acre country park at Lydiard Tregoze, about 4 miles west of central Swindon. Lydiard Tregoze is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was owned by the Tregoze family from about 1189. The park was used by the American Forces as a military hospital from 1942 and between 1943 and March 1946 was a PoW camp and military hospital for German prisoners. After buying and restoring it Swindon Council opened it to the public in 1955.

Fountain, Lydiard Park, Swindon
There was a moderate northerly wind this day. This was taken in a brief lull. The fountain is in a recently restored ornamental lake in the grounds of the mansion.

The lake at Lydiard Park - 1
Looking north with Lydiard House on the left. Previously known as the 'lost lake', the original two-acre lake had been largely dry for nearly 100 years since the dam wall collapsed. But in 2005 Swindon Borough Council was awarded £3M from the Heritage Lottery Fund and as a result much of the 18th century landscape features have been restored in the park. One of the largest projects was to reinstate the lake and they have done an excellent job.
