Hornbury Hill, Minety
The hill isn't very steep compared to those found in the Celtic fringes. On the plus side it's unlikely to be cluttered up with folk with crampons and bobble hats. The viewpoint was provided by the entrance to a footpath leading north out of the village.

Minety war memorial
It was with great immediacy that Minety's council acted to create a lasting memorial to those who were lost in the Great War. As soon as 15th November, 1918, a motion was passed to do so. Funds were raised in the following year and on 6th March, 1920, Mrs Gouldsmith unveiled the memorial, which was then dedicated by the vicar, Reverend T. A. Ludlow-Hewitt. Hughes and Son of Malmesbury crafted the granite obelisk, which is now Grade II listed.
Interestingly, there are no names on the memorial - even after the additional losses of WWII. It was first thought that twelve men of Minety were lost in WWI, but later research has indicated that there are probably more - mainly people who were from the village but moved elsewhere in time. Instead, the sides of the obelisk bear the legend 'Is it nothing to all ye who pass by?' Clearly, it does mean something to some.

The war memorial and the old school
Minety school originally operated in this building on a bend in Silver Street, but is now on a site directly opposite. The old buildings are now in private use but part of the old grounds was given over to the village war memorial.
