Chippenham railway station
Opened in 1841 by the Great Western Railway on its line from London to Bristol, the station was rebuilt in 1858. View south west towards Corsham and Bristol.

The lineless platform at Chippenham railway station
The platform on the left, nearest the main station entrance, looks like a platform and is a platform -
but there is no longer a railway line alongside it.
I did not immediately notice the absence of a line. Lesson learned - expect the unexpected!
The one line in view is alongside platform 1.

Old bridge, new barriers
Chippenham station is now a barrier-controlled station, so a new building has been erected where passengers entering from the car park have to present tickets before using the footbridge to the platform. This is the old footbridge, supplemented with a newer one with lifts at the west end of the station in 2015.
