Detail on the bank
Today it is a Nat West branch, but the decorative stonework would probably have dated from an earlier incarnation, perhaps a Wilts and Dorset or a Capital and Counties Bank - both of which were here on the High Street in the nineteenth century.

Harking to the past
Now a Wilkinson's store, this building clearly had a previous occupier. The original Chippenham Co-operative Society was founded in 1890, emphasising local farming supplies and built this store near the bridge. It continued until the 1960s when the need to merge with other societies became pressing, eventually forcing the national establishment of The Co-operative Group. By the 1980s, they moved out and Wilko's took over. Interestingly enough, there is a Co-op Bank branch further up Market Place.
