Burton's stones
One of a pair of foundation stones of Burton's in Chippenham. Appropriately enough, they were laid by the twins, Raymond and Arnold, who were born in 1918 and became part of the Burton boardroom around the end of WWII. Raymond was responsible for the firm's property portfolio and later helped to found the Top Shop brand. See Image] for the other stone.

Both of these foundation stones guard the entrance to the well-known firm of Burton's the tailors. Arnold James was the youngest son of the founder, Sir Maurice Burton, and was a well-travelled businessman, philanthropist and motor sports enthusiast. See Image] for the other stone.

The Tailor of Taste
Burton's have over four hundred stores across Britain. Founded in 1903 by Montague Burton in Chesterfield it grew to become the largest chain of tailors in the world. Indeed, Montague claimed he could supply men with a complete range of clothes in one visit: jacket, trousers, waistcoat, shirt and underwear - what was often called ' The Full Monty'. The firm also had the pleasure of fitting the England football squads, including the 2000, 2002 and cup-winning 1966 teams. See Image] for a view below the grand logo.
