A growing shadow
One day the old college block is there, the next day the sun floods in. The day after and the shadows return. A small mortgage firm's offices have seen them all. See Image] for another view.

Derelict college building, Regent Circus, Swindon
The former Swindon College building has stood empty for many years awaiting demolition. While arguments rage as to how and when this should happen, the Swindon populace grows more and more irate and less and less patient with the eyesore. Students transferred many years ago to the North Star site.

Taking shape
Swindon's old college tower block is now levelled; the new complex takes shape on the site. A 52,000 sq ft supermarket, a 30,000 sq ft multiscreen, eight restaurants and other retail outlets are part of the deal now. See Image] for more of the current state of construction.

Right shape, different service
A recent addition to the furniture of Regent Circus - a cash machine. Note that it is not the typical 'hole-in-the-wall' sort; no, it just so happens to have the same profile as a familiar K6 telephone kiosk. It also happens to replace a genuine phone box (a KX100) on this same spot. The Trinity Presbyterian church looks on from the background, awaiting a new owner.

The rise of the new
The old technical college was founded in the late 1800s, but its role is about to change. Along with the new retail and leisure complex being built on the site of the old post-war block, the Victorian institution is to be converted into offices. See Image] for another view.
