Spring Quarry
The Bath stone quarry was converted into a WW2 shadow factory that manufactured aircraft engines and gun parts. After the war it was used as a Royal Navy stores and one section known as Site 3 became the Central Government War Headquarters. Although much of the underground space remains empty, a section of the western side of the quarry now forms part of the Corsham Media Park.

GPO Exchange Central Government War Headquarters
At the heart of the top secret Central Government War Headquarters codenamed 'Burlington', was the GPO telephone exchange from which communications would be maintained between the government and the rest of the country and beyond in the event of a nuclear strike. The vast underground site containing the CGWH was declassified in 2004 and parts have since been listed by English Heritage due to their unique nature. Unfortunately the GPO exchange itself has suffered damage from damp since the photo was taken. The location is accurate to 200m. Access is not possible.
