The Methuen Arms
Named after the local land-owning family this pub is in fact a Georgian building on the face of an older mediaeval house called Winters Court. In 2010 it was taken over by the Stills family, who have embarked on a thorough refurbishment.

2010 : Methuen Arms Hotel, Corsham
On the B3353 which serves as Corsham's main street, the Methuen Arms or its predecessor has served the traveller for many a long year. "Apart from the Georgian architecture, the ancient stone walls, mullioned windows and oak beams of “The Carving Room” date back to the fourteenth century and this section was originally a nunnery. The other wings and buildings around the courtyard at the rear of the building date back from the 1600’s but parts may be earlier. The nunnery became a public house in 1608 and was known as the Red Lion by 1637." The above was copied from: http://www.methuenarms.co.uk/

An enduring cross
The area of the old graveyard is now right next to the Martingate shopping centre and is a pretty busy area for shoppers to wander through. Despite this, and the children's playground close by, this cross remains, adorned by flowers.

Neatly arranged around the edge
Some gravestones at the side of a former graveyard in Corsham. The area is right beside the Martingate shopping centre (which is a pretty modern construction). There are a few churches and chapels close by, but the former Independent Chapel (and before that a Congregational Chapel) seems to be the closest to it. In the background is Grounded, a small chain of local cafés based in Bristol and Wiltshire, which have occupied the building.
