Box Station
View eastward, towards Swindon and London; ex-GWR Paddington - Bristol Main line. Station (classical Brunel) closed 4/1/65. A 'Warship' class Diesel-Hydraulic is passing on the 16.45 Paddington - Bristol - Taunton.

Seen from the A4 bridge near Box. Middlehill tunnel is about 1/2 mile away and almost in sight, another 1/2 mile and it is the Big One - the Box Tunnel.

Ashley Garage
This Shell service station https://find.shell.com/gb/fuel/12449960-ashley-garage stands on the A4 a little west of Box. As with all petrol stations in the Bath area, the price of fuel is rather high compared with the going rate in nearby Bristol and Chippenham, which is where canny Bathonians tend to fill up.

Box railway station (site), Wiltshire
Opened in 1841 by the Great Western Railway on its line from Swindon to Bristol Temple Meads, this station closed in 1965.
View east towards Box (Mill Lane) and Swindon. Image shows the station and was taken a few metres to the right, some 55 years earlier.
