2008 : Gatehouse for Great Chalfield Manor
The gatehouse would have been erected to protect the main entrance drive to the manor, about half a mile away. You don't want just anybody wandering around your garden, do you.

On our way to visit Gt Chalfield Manor, a Green Woodpecker flew across and landed in a tree, I failed in my attempt to get a photo, pity.

A good healthy looking crop, coming along nicely.
Houses on the western side of The Common are in the background, and further over, on the right hand side of the picture, is Oliver's Castle, SU0064 near Devizes.

Farmland south of Broughton Gifford
Broughton Gifford clusters around two focal points, joined by an isthmus of housing, off which a footpath strikes southward across the right-hand side of this field. It was a good place to detach oneself from the unbearably close sporting events being broadcast that evening.
