So called because the site was once dye works. The chimney was built in 1903 for Wilts United Dairies who had moved to the site. The chimney was reduced to one-third of its former height in the 1990s and is now used for mobile phone antenna.

The trading estate occupies the former premises of Wiltshire United Dairies. In 2002, Vodafone decided to use the old dye house chimney on the right for its mobile phone antennae; the chimney was originally much higher but was reduced to half or a third of its height (accounts vary) in the 1900s http://archive.gazetteandherald.co.uk/2002/3/8/194291.html .
