Former Reading Rooms, Melksham
The Melksham and District Historical Society blue plaque on the Bank Street building records that it was built in 1852, known as Prospect House. It was the Melksham Mutual Improvement Society's reading room.

An uneasy proximity
Melksham has all three main political parties represented in the main street. Just up the road was the Labour Club and the Liberal Club a short stagger after that.

The Grapes has a sign outside. Nothing unusual in that, nor the fact that it has grapes depicted on it from this side. It's just that on the reverse there is a banana.
