Pilgrim Centre, Regent Circus
The Pilgrim Centre is a meeting place run by Central Church, an ecumenical body made up of Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Church denominations. Built in 1990, it also houses the Roundabout Cafe. http://www.pilgrimcentre.co.uk/ It was built on the site of the Baptist Tabernacle, which though described as "Swindon's St. Paul's" by Sir John Betjeman, was demolished in 1978. Its stones have travelled via Brokenborough and Towcester back to Swindon, but plans re-erect the classical facade have come to nothing and they remain in storage in the Science Museum in Wroughton. http://www.flickr.com/photos/swindonlocal/4537607390/

Work continues to demolish the old buildings in the city centre. It has to be done with some care as the surrounding offices and shops are too close for heavy duty methods.
