A short walk around Littleton Panell [6]
In High Street, Littleton Pannell stands a'Becketts, glimpsed here. A large late 17th or early 18th century house, restored and enlarged in 1904, the original house now forms the east wing. Constructed of brick with under a tile roof. There is a central moulded panel reading 'The Residence of the Ancient family of a'Beckett'. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1198200 Starting from the former Lavington railway station on the Reading to Taunton line, the walk heads south along the A360 road, which becomes Littleton Panell High Street. Turning northeast, the route is along Russell Mill Lane and the ensuing bridleway to Spin Hill. From the junction of Spin Hill and Ledge Hill, a bridleway leads back to the A360 road, which is then followed northwards to the starting point. Just over 2½ miles.

The bridleway ends as it descends to meet the A360 road. Starting from the former Lavington railway station on the Reading to Taunton line, the walk heads south along the A360 road, which becomes Littleton Panell High Street. Turning northeast, the route is along Russell Mill Lane and the ensuing bridleway to Spin Hill. From the junction of Spin Hill and Ledge Hill, a bridleway leads back to the A360 road, which is then followed northwards to the starting point. Just over 2½ miles.

Number 53 High Street, Littleton Pannell, is a 17th century cottage set gable end to the street and extended in the 20th century. Constructed of rubble stone, the extension in brick under a thatch roof. There is a rear lean-to with a tile roof.
