Golden post box in Cheam
In 2012 the Royal Mail painted post boxes gold where winning athletes were born, and places of importance to them, such as where they grew up or lived. This one in Ewell Road, Cheam is to honour Olympic cycling champion Joanna Rowsell who won a gold medal in the women’s team pursuit. She attende the nearby Nonsuch High School for Girls where she was discovered by cycling scouts. Cheam also marks the place where she lives and grew up. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Summer_Olympics_and_Paralympics_gold_post_boxes for more information about golden post boxes.
