Bockmer End in November
View north-west. There is a picturesque quality about the cottages that suggests that they were built as estate accommodation. The style reflects Arts & Crafts influence, so I would guess that they date from about 1900. They appear to be stone-built (unusual around here) and the stone could well be 'clunch' - in other words, chalk.

Cottages at Bockmer End
My guess is that these originated as estate cottages - intended to ornament the estate as well as accommodate its workers. The long dormers and low eaves are typical of the Arts & Crafts style of 1890, or 1900. Are the cottages built of chalk, like Image a few miles away?

In the Pines
There's an American folk song that goes "In the pines, in the pines, where the sun never shines....." Not strictly true, as you see here, but it's a very different sun from the generous golds and greens of the nearby beech woods. This footpath is in either Heath or Homefield Wood, they seem to merge.
