Kearley's monument
This is not a monument to Hudson Ewbanke Kearley, 1st Viscount Devonport, PC, DL (1 September 1856 – 5 September 1934). He was a British grocer and liberal politician but the monument refers to a decision, in the Court of Appeal on 28th March 1899, asserting the 'Memenham Ferry is public'. "Well My Lord: public it may be - but it 'ain't here nowadays!"

Flooded wood by old ferry landing
The Thames is rather high and has submerged the river bank path beyond the trees. In the centre is the silhouette of a monument on the river bank commemorating Lord Devonport's successful legal battle of 1899 to preserve the public status of the ferry. All to no avail now.

Where Medmenham Ferry once was
There is a lot of water coming down the Thames. The apparent island across the water is the usual far bank, and the footpath upstream from this point along the near bank was submerged.
