The (former) Hernes Oak
One of two pubs once quite close to each other along North Street, Cranbourne. The old Hernes Oak is still here but now used for something else. The other one was being demolished as I passed by today. The name comes from Herne the Hunter, a character from local folklore. Wikipedia says "In English folklore, Herne the Hunter is a ghost associated with Windsor Forest and Great Park in the English county of Berkshire. He is said to have antlers growing from his head." https://www.berkshirehistory.com/legends/herne03.html He even gets a mention in Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor. https://theshakespeareblog.com/2012/12/the-legend-of-hernes-oak/ But in spite of all that, the pub's still shut.

A Tree in Cranborne
Along an otherwise built up road in the middle of Cranborne are two small fields behind a wall and railings which look more like part of a park. Possibly a remnant of the grounds of Cranborne Hall, Image demolished in 2007 to make way for housing.

Demolishing The Squirrels
According to the local paper, https://www.bracknellnews.co.uk/news/17905581.cranbourne-pub-squirrels-causing-residents-misery/ a once popular pub was closed and left to go derelict and become an eyesore, with the added problems of rats and vandals causing a nuisance to local residents. That was back in 2019. The place is only now being finally cleared.

Post Box and Demolition, Squirrel Lane
A rather laid back looking post box is over the road from a large demolition site where a former pub which had been left empty for some years, becoming an eyesore and a nuisance, is finally being cleared.
