Holy Trinity Church Windsor view from the east
A view from Trinity Place. Known locally as the church on the roundabout, Holy Trinity is located at the junction of Claremont Road and Trinity Place, near East Berkshire College. The Church of England website states that Holy Trinity is uniquely a Parish Church and a Garrison Church with permission to display the White Ensign (the Royal Navy flag flown above ships and shore establishments). Holy Trinity was founded with a gift of 200 guineas from Queen Victoria. The foundation stone was laid on April 4th 1842 by Prince Albert. Queen Victoria wanted the church to be built both for the spiritual welfare of her troops garrisoned at Combermere and Victoria Barracks and for the growing population of Windsor, especially the poor who lived in slums by the Thames, in the area that is now Alexandra Gardens.
