Looking from Alexandra Road into Devereux Road
Devereux Road was named after Sir Joseph Devereux (1816-1903) who was the youngest son of Charles Thomas Topping Devereux, the founder of the Devereux firm of hatters at Eton and Windsor, which lasted for three generations until 1937. Joseph became a Town Councillor of Windsor, a JP and later Alderman; he also served (unusually) for two terms as Mayor, and was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1881. This information was provided by a relative.
