A 'Castle' on a Down express on the Slow line west of Slough
View eastward, towards Slough and Paddington; ex-GWR main line Paddington - Reading and the West. It is a Sunday and the Fast lines (on the right) are being relaid. A materials train is on the Down siding, across the west curve from the Windsor Branch. Built right back in 6/25, No. 4087 'Cardigan Castle' has recently been renovated with a double-chimney and is working the 17.00 Paddington - Paignton/Plymouth; it gave another 4½ years service. (Note the LNER (?Great Northern) full-brake behind the engine).

Slough: The Horlicks factory
One of Slough's iconic images, the Horlicks factory on Stoke Poges Lane was completed in 1908 at a cost of £28,000. The brand name and the site now belong to GlaxoSmithKline. Everything you ever wanted to know about Horlicks (for example that India is by far the largest market for the product) is contained in the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horlicks , and, for a free plug which should ensure I get a lifetime supply of the stuff, here's Horlick's own website http://www.horlicks.co.uk/

The junction of Bath Road and Ledger's Road, Slough
I have never come across as many traffic lights per mile as on the A4 through Slough. At least it allows regular photos and the tall office blocks are interesting to look at.
