The station has four platforms which are paired, two for the Styal line (left) and two for the Stockport line (right). The tracks diverge south of the station, and continue on separate but parallel viaducts across the Bollin valley north of the station before the Styal line turns out to the north-west.

Wilmslow railway station
Located 19 km (12 miles) south of Manchester Piccadilly station, Wilmslow station in Cheshire is on the Crewe to Manchester line, part of the West Coast Main Line. Electric trains are powered by 25 kilovolt alternating current overhead lines. The station is also used by diesel powered trains, such as the Arriva Trains Wales service from South Wales to Manchester Piccadilly and the reverse route.

Virgin Pendolino leaves Wilmslow railway station
On a northbound service, the train crosses one of two parallel 13 arch viaducts http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4157311 over the A538 and the River Bollin. The class 390 Pendolino has a top speed of 140 mph (225 kph). Track signalling limitations restrict the trains to a maximum 125 mph (200 kph) on this route.
