Woodley Mill, steam engine
This mill had a beautiful well maintained chimney and was beside the main road. It once had two engines by Tangyes of Birmingham but the larger one had already been removed for display at the Stockport Hat Museum. This was the smaller one (c10" x c20") and was in use merely to reduce the steam pressure (it wasn't driving anything and this was a cheap and dirty fix to the alternative of buying a reducing valve). The engine was removed in the period 1988-89 and after passing through various owners has been sold on for private preservation. Its current whereabouts are not known.
