'The Long Pull', Broadstone Road
Photographed in the summer of 1956. An early licensee of this beer shop was known for his generosity when pulling pints into the customers' jugs, hence the shop became known among the villagers as 'The Long Pull'. The property has in the meantime been converted into apartments.

Houldsworth Square Memorial (East face)
The memorial to William Houldsworth was designed and constructed by Messrs J & H Patterson of Manchester, the cost being met by public subscription. In design, it is similar to a monument in Douglas, Isle of Man, and it was unveiled on the 11 September 1920. Viewed here looking from Houldsworth Square to Leamington Road. Opposite view Image The memorial is made of sandstone with pink granite pillars supporting a clock having four faces. Three sides carry the dedication inscription Image, a bronze portrait plaque Image and a drinking fountain Image, respectively. The ground-level animal troughs have been removed. In 1986 it was moved to the centre of a raised brick-paved area with seating, when Houldsworth Square was redesigned as part of a community programme. More information about William Houldsworth can be found at http://www.pittdixon.go-plus.net/houldsworth/houldsworth.htm
