Rail & Ale, Heaton Chapel
Rail & Ale opened in November 2024 in one of the retail huts close to Heaton Chapel station. It advertises itself as the 'last stop before home' offering a range of alcoholic drinks soured locally and from around the world. At the moment it is purely for off sales but, according to a news report, there is a possibility that it could become a micropub in the longer term.

Heaton Moor: a southbound electric train
This is not a very good photograph, but it may be of interest in showing the early days of 25 kV electric services on the West Coast Main Line. It was nearly another two years before through services from Manchester to London Euston began. The stylish blue AL1 Class locomotives were certainly of interest to 15-year-old trainspotters like me and I sneaked out of my uncle's house on Tatton Road South (on his wedding day) for this picture, pressing the shutter too soon as I always did when photographing moving trains. Left to right on the other side of the railway are houses on Lawton Road, Wingate Road and Brantwood Road.
