St. Winifred's, Heaton Mersey
The Parish of St. Winifred's belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford. The foundation stone of the present church was laid on 17 June 1950 by Bishop Henry Vincent Marshall, Bishop of Salford. On the 12th August 1951, the Church was dedicated to St. Winifred, blessed and opened by Bishop Marshall. On 9th January 1952, the parish of St. Winifred was canonically erected. In January 1959, the new presbytery was built to link up with the church. The parish centre was built in 1982 and dedicated as the Kavanagh Centre, in honour of Fr. Kavanagh, the Parish Priest. In 1986 the Sanctuary was re-ordered and on 12th December 1986, Bishop Patrick Kelly consecrated the Church and new altar on its 25th anniversary.
