Bridge Street, Whaley Bridge
The 'Whaley' name comes from Old English meaning a woodland clearing by a road, but the 'Bridge' part refers to the crossing of the River Goyt. As the name implies, there is a bridge a little further along this road although it is not the only one. The pub is named after the river.
