A farmhouse above the Goyt valley. The conspicuous datestone says 1850 but other features of the building (some not shown in this picture) suggest a much earlier date.

Across the Goyt Valley in Derbyshire
A telephoto assisted image, looking north-east across the Goyt Valley from near Carr Swing Bridge on the Peak Forest Canal. The large building, left of centre, is Carr View Cottages, five hundred metres away on Marsh Lane. The white building is a railway signal box on the Hope Valley Line (Manchester to Sheffield).

View across the tracks
Our Northern service on the Hope Valley Line was stopped at New Mills South Junction for a late running East Midlands express to overtake us. At least we had a nice view of the Derbyshire countryside.
