Foundation stone, Buxton Town Hall
One of a pair of foundation stones alongside the entrance to Buxton Town Hall (see Image). The writing on this one is very indistinct but would appear to refer to the Marquess (although spelt Marquis on the stone) of Hartington, who conducted the opening of the hall in 1889.

Bleak officialdom
Unlike the flamboyant exterior, Buxton town hall is very utilitarian inside, with that faintly sinister air that makes it look like a set for an episode of Doctor Who

Buxton Town Hall
Town Hall, designed by William Pollard and built 1887-9. The 1879 1:500 plan shows a Market Hall on the site - this burnt down in 1885. Grade II listed - see https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1259171?section=official-list-entry.

Foundation stone, Buxton Town Hall
One of a pair of foundation stones alongside the entrance to Buxton Town Hall (see Image). The writing is not entirely clear but would appear to read: "Laid June 21st 1897 ??? Jubilee of Queen Victoria ??? Edwd C Milligan ??? the Buxton ???"

Buxton Market Cross
Grade II listed cross in Higher Buxton. The cross was moved from Cockerd off Palace Road to the centre of the market place when the market charter was granted in 1813, and was more recently relocated to its current position in front of the Victorian Town Hall.
