Longnor Telephone Exchange (2)
This photo shows the blue gate and the TE buildings in Church Street, with a rather dirty BT warning notice on the gate. Bracken and limestone walls can also be seen in this photo. The numbering range of this TE is (01298) 83xxx, the (01298) referring to the Buxton group of TEs, and its postcode is SK17 0PE.

Longnor Telephone Exchange (1)
Situated in Church Street, this TE comprises the front limestone building, which would date from the GPO era, and the dark wooden building behind it which was added more recently. This TE serves Longnor, plus Crowdicote, Earl Sterndale, Fawfieldhead, Hollinsclough and Newtown nearby. A microwave dish can just be seen fixed at the far end of the front building directed towards the BT radio station at Sutton Common, SJ 9367 refers, and presumably installed to improve telephone and broadband coverage.

Longnor is a market town, not a village, but on a small scale. These central street are little changed and so are often used for filming. The notice on the door to the right says: "THE SITE OF THE OLDE RED BULL INN WHICH WAS LISTED IN 1818 AND EXISTED LONG BEFORE THAT DATE. IT WAS KNOWN AS THE 'BULL'S HEAD' IN VICTORIAN TIMES AND THE LAST LICENCE EXPIRED BETWEEN 1904-08."
