Hartington Cheese Factory
Hartington cheese factory as viewed from the main pay and display car park. The factory opened in the 1870s and produces no less than a quarter of the world’s supply of Stilton. To be called Stilton, a cheese must be produced in the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire. Hartington cheese can be purchased from the factory shop opposite the duck pond Image

Cheese factory, Hartington
This factory once produced large quantities of cheeses, including Hartington Stilton, the famous blue cheese. Unfortunately the company was taken over by a rival, and the factory closed (some say with indecent haste) in 2009, and the machinery exported to Germany.
